The legend of Philoctetes has some main features, with some variations, that are repeated in the mythological tradition: hero of Greek mythology, who was excluded and abandoned on the island of Lemnos and then returned to the conquest of Troy. This study has focused on the bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature on the figure of Philoctetes during the period 1961-2015.The aim was to describe and characterize the state of the scientific literature on this subject for use in teaching posible educational value of myth. Using eight specific bibliometric indicators, we have formed a final sample that shows 124 documents, identified as articles and obtained in the database Web of Science. According to results, it has been shown, on the one hand, poor and irregular scientific production of 124 articles over 54 years, with a range from two to eight articles in the 10 most productive journals. The majority are from Anglo-Saxon countries and authorship of a single author. On the other hand, it has been found that the most productive topic has been Philoctetes Sophocles tragedy. It has also been approached from other research areas such as education, medicine, psychology, psychiatry, sociology and religion. The findings conclude that it is a little researched topic and, given the diversity of areas that have been treated, it has a multidisciplinary potential to continue in their study and application to education.

This article tries to understand the Sophocle's production questioning the traditional temporary demarcation of the Greek history in the Archaic Period (XII - VI B.C.) and in the Classic Period (V - IV B.C.), proposing the century V B.C. as transition among these periods. They are also analyzed some Aristotelian concepts that are supposed fundamental to understand the philosophical-educational dimension of the Sophocle's tragedy and, in this sense, to try to observe ethical elements in the actions of Oiedipus, starting from the tragedy King Oiedipus.

The main purpose presented in this article is to analyze how the Sophoclean works influenced the Aristotelian ethical thought construction process. In order to conduct this analysis, the tragedy Oedipus at Colonus is used to arouse the discussion on central questions in the ethical thought of Aristotle, such as practical wisdom, caution and prudence. Therefore, it was necessary to re-compound the transition route between the political-mythical thought, expressed in the mythical temporality of the tragedies, and the political-ethical thought, experienced in the Athens daily routine during the fifth century B.C. However, it is not the proposal of this article to establish an evolutionist analysis concerning the Greek philosophical knowledge construction process. Since this process was done by human efforts, so it is a historical product, it is not a purpose of this work elaborate any kind of validation about one or another way (mythical or ethical) of comprehension, behavior and action. Thus, herein is offered a comparative view between these two possibilities in order to understand how one contributed to the construction of the other one.
